Brown Brothers Australian Tawny Port The richness of Shiraz and the softness of Grenache together with smaller quantities of Cabernet Sauvignon, Carignane, Mataro and other varieties, combine together in the Port Soleras at Milawa to produce this Tawny style Port. The fortifying grape spirit is subtle and the wood maturation of this young tawny port has enhanced the developed qualities of the wine. On the palate this delectable port is ample and rich with dried fruit and rancio flavours, indicating a wholesome integration of mature blended port material. It is not a cloying port, with sweetness balanced by the drying sensations that is derived from long ageing in oak barrels.

dArenberg Custodian Grenache 2007 d’Arenberg own and manage of nearly a third of all McLaren Vale's old Grenache bush vines. During the 1980s, d’Arenberg resisted taking part in the great vine pull out scheme which proved to be disastrously short sighted. The raft of flavour and complexity remains focused and in the varietal spectrum. The palate is full bodied and darker than previous years with a structural backbone of boney fruit tannin that runs the length of the palate.

dArenberg dArrys Original Shiraz Grenache 2007 Grown to d’Arenberg’s low yielding 19th century vineyards, very much a traditional style of wine, d’Arry's Original is named in honour of principal, d’Arry Osborn, who is a Winemakers Federation of Australia Patron and recipient of the Medal of the Order of Australia. Originally called d’Arry’s Burgundy in the 1960s, when medium bodied red wines with a soft finish were always called Burgundy. The palate has a velvety mouth feel and fantastic balance with raspberry, boysenberry, plum and prune building to a back palate of spices and a touch of pepper. The silky tannins and a subtle cinnamon character provide for a long refined finish.

dArenberg Ironstone Pressings Grenache Shiraz 2003 The Ironstone Pressings is a premium blend and a member of the ‘Icon’ team. Blends of these three varieties have been bottled and labelled under the d’Arenberg red stripe label since the late 1950’s, and in 1988 they released the first of this high-powered blend.
After quite some time in bottle the intense colour fruit aromas and dusty gripping tannins tone down, the colour moving towards brown ruby red.
Eventually the Grenache and Shiraz blossom as rich, sweet, violet like scents, with spicy, cedary and tobacco based aromas before malty sweet dark chocolate flavours and crunchy, chewy textured black olive, spicy ginger and long fleshy textures.

dArenberg Sticks Stones Tempranillo Grenache 2005 Chester Osborn was one of the first to plant Tempranillo in the McLaren Vale as it appeared well-suited to the region, and is a traditional blending partner to Grenache. d’Arenberg uses sticks (vine cuttings) planted into stony soils, the Shiraz component is added for it's bold flavour profiles and aromaticness. As the wine opens, aromatic notes of musk, violets, dark cherries, bush tomatoes and strong flowery notes come through with a background of spice and fine oak notes. The flavours are very elegant and have a dark red/earthy focus and as the wine opens the grenache cranberry notes become quite obvious.

dArenberg Stump Jump Red 2008 Super value and packs plenty of interest, like an Aussie Cotes-du-Rhone with meat and berry, spice and earth. "It’s not tricked up with oak, winemaking artifact or residual sugar, an honest wine of immensely satisfying character, especially at the price. Stump Jump has plenty of impact with ripe juicy fruits red fruits, spice, cardamom, and a kirsch cherry character with a background of oak. Mulberry and plum flavours from the Grenache combine with the blackberry, spice and white pepper of the Shiraz.

Maxwell Four Roads Shiraz Grenache Viognier A good value!" -Robert Parker. Experience is a wonderful thing. The shiraz provides richness to the wine, while viognier promotes a silky smooth mid-palate that is highlighted by the spiced cherry character of grenache. The wine finishes in a harmony of sweet and savoury flavours.
